Step 1: Check your eligibility

 

If you wish to qualify for a PMP certification, you have to fulfill a certain requirement of educational background and experience set by the Project Management Institute.  

 

Educational Background: A 4 year degree (Bachelor or Equivalent) is a must OR a high school diploma/associate degree.

 

Project Management Experience:

 

  • With a 4 year degree, 36 months of experience in leading projects is a must 
  • With a high school diploma, 60 months of experience in leading projects is a must

 

Project Management Training: 35 hours of formal and contact project management education is a must

A Project Management Professional Certification exam is designed to elevate a candidate’s knowledge and skills in the field of Project Management.

Exam Structure

 

  • Total Duration: 230 minutes (3 hours and 50 minutes) 
  • Questions: Answering 180 questions is a must, out of which 175 are scored questions and 5 are pretest questions that will not affect the final score.

 

Domains Covered

 

Your PMP certification exam will revolve around 3 domains such as;

  • People - 42%

 

This focuses on interpersonal skills to lead projects and teams effectively

  • Process - 50%

 

This focuses on technical aspects such as methodologies and best practices.

  • Business Environment - 8%

  • Failure to earn the required PDUs can lead to a certificate suspension of one year, however you can still renew by completing the necessary PDUs in the given one year. 
  • If you do not renew your certification by earning PDUs, your certification will expire and you will need to retake the exam for certification.
